Fossil Gallery

A Fossil Collection of Mono-prints, Drawings and Textile Pieces.

A body of work has been created that effectively expresses the weight, the age, the coldness, the colours and the beauty of delicate plant and fish fossils.

Oil Mono–printing lends itself to layering, concealing and revealing.  It is one of the few techniques where negative and positive image making can be used to build up layers.  Some of the layers contain paper cut-outs and embroidered parts, resulting in pieces which suggest hidden treasures akin to fossils.

Using Geological Maps and Charts for source materials, I have investigated methods of placing and illustrating these fossils into a Pictorial Setting.  The colours in geological charts are usually quite bizarre and wonderful, and they contain patterns and marks that are unique to these documents.
