Drawings and research, explore the migratory journeys of the beautiful Bewick Swans as they return each year from Northern Russia to the UK.
Whilst drawing the swans, their feathers have beguiled me. Daring to replicate single feathers with Machine Embroidery on Paper, they are elevated to articles of beauty, with colours reminiscent of Italian medieval paintings, or Roman artifacts and relics. They are painted and gilded with gold leaf.
