Lyrical gardens with hidden areas waiting to be discovered
By their very nature, drawings are an invitation to the viewer to ‘listen in’.
The Rococo Gardens are held in a coombe, deep in the Cotswolds, surrounded by steep slopes of mature trees and vistas to open fields. I have filled sketchbooks with pencil drawings of lyrical pathways, vegetable plots and flower beds and the intimate ‘rooms’ of these lovely gardens.
Iona provided a place of quiet to explore meditative mark making, illustrating emotions felt while exploring stone carvings in Iona Abbey; a multitude of tiny pencil lines, each a prayer.
Stone interpretations of foliage are fascinating – this was my starting point. These drawings of regal ferns, become poetic and prophetic.
