Pleated Journeys

Drawn images illustrating the noises, the steps, the topography of a Journey

Journey

Research into smocking, folding and pleating in historical textiles has opened up new avenues for my practice.

I use a hand-operated, British-made machine to create pleats, where a series of ratcheted rollers, needles, and threads is able to meticulously fold metres of paper.

This process transforms ink and pencil drawings into fresh rhythms, crafting a beautiful language of marks.

As a result, I’m uncovering new vistas of pilgrimage and exploration.
